Description

High Bridge over the River Nidd is a bridge that was rebuilt in 1773, with additional widening and restoration in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed from coursed squared gritstone and features two segmental arches with rock-faced voussoirs. There are pointed cutwaters on both sides of the bridge. The original narrow arches have chamfered ribs and may date back to the medieval period. The bridge was likely rebuilt as part of a network of turnpike roads that were completed in 1777.
