Description

A group of four estate workers' houses forming numbers 9-15 High Street, dating to 1877 and later altered. The houses were designed by J.F. Bentley for Henry, 9th Lord Beaumont. They are constructed of reddish-orange brick with a cast-tile roof. Each cottage is single-storey with attics, incorporating a single dormer window. Pairs of off-centre entrances feature three-panel doors recessed within elliptical-arched openings flanked by pilaster strips. Casement windows are present throughout. A stepped band runs along the elevation, and pairs of windows are visible to each gable, punctuated by ornate plaster plaques. The buildings have ridge and end stacks. Interior features include original three-panel doors, fireplaces, and dogleg staircases with rod-on-vase balustrades, although a full inspection has not been carried out. The group of houses adjoins The Gables (number 7).
