Description

The Gables is an estate workers’ house built in 1877, with subsequent alterations. Designed by J.F. Bentley for Henry, 9th Lord Beaumont, it features a plaque inscribed "MIEUX SERA". The house is constructed of reddish-orange brick with a cast-tile roof and is arranged in an L-shape. It is a single-storey building with attics, comprising one bay in each wing. The main facade faces north, with a three-panel entrance door set under an open porch. Casement windows are found throughout. A band runs across the gable, and there is brick coping and kneelers present. A side stack provides ventilation. The interior retains original features, including a dogleg staircase with a rod-on-vase balustrade and three-panel doors.
