Description
No 89 on High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick and limestone rubble, topped with a pantile roof. The building has two storeys and features two first-floor windows. At the base, there is a stone plinth. The entrance on the left consists of a half-glazed four-panel door, while the bow window on the right is unglazed and covered by wooden shutters, with the plinth beneath it also bowing. On the first floor, there are two square windows with two lights, fitted with 20th-century casements. An end stack is located on the right side of the building. At the rear, there is a 19th-century extension made of limestone and brick. The right return features a 19th-century lean-to made of brick with a Westmorland slate roof, which is not considered of special interest. Inside, there is a straight flight of stairs in the rear room opposite the front entrance. In the front room on the left, the timber posts and tie-beam of the gable end of the adjacent No 87 are clearly visible. The upper rooms have narrow board doors, and there is a cast-iron basket grate in the rear room. This house was part of a public house in the 19th century and is included for its group value.
