Description

The Garden Wall at New Gardens is a stone and brick garden wall built in 1652. It features a tablet inscribed with the names of Sir Hugh Cholmely and his wife Elizabeth, who was the daughter of Sir William Twisden. The inscription notes that they built the wall and planted the orchard in that year. Below the inscription is a shield of arms representing Cholmley impaling Twisden, along with the phrase, "Our handy work like to the fruitful tree; O Lord let it not blasted be."
