Description
Mallard Grange is a farmhouse built in the mid 18th century, with earlier elements and alterations from the mid 19th century. It is constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble and topped with a stone slate roof. The building has two storeys and three bays, with the central bay slightly projecting. It features quoins and a 20th-century glazed double door on the far right. Throughout the structure, there are 16-pane sash windows with sawn stone sills and lintels, except for the ground-floor left window, which has a cambered keyed lintel. The central and left bays have earlier openings that are now blocked, showcasing quoined jambs, thin sills, and cambered keyed lintels. The roof has shaped kneelers and gable copings, with stacks at each end and flanking the central bay. At the rear, there is a 3-light chamfered mullion window that lights the cellar on the left side. Inside, the front room on the left features a large fireplace with a mantel beam against the central room, and exposed beams with plain chamfers. This building is located on the site of a grange of Fountains Abbey.
