Description

Two houses, likely dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, stand on the north side of Brompton High Green. They are built of red brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with a Welsh slate roof. The houses are two stories high, with a total of six bays. The central bays (2 and 4) each feature a six-panel door, above which is a traceried fanlight. The fanlight is contained within an elaborate surround consisting of reeded Doric pilasters, impost mouldings to the archivolt, and consoles with guttae and open pediments. A canted bay window with a four-pane sash window is situated to the left of the front door, featuring a frieze and cornice. The right-hand door is flanked by similar bay windows, but these bays contain 20th-century casement windows. A large, basket-arched carriage opening, constructed with brick voussoirs, is located on the right-hand side of the building. All windows have stone sills. The first floor has six sash windows with glazing bars, each set within a flat stucco arch that sits higher than the window itself. The building is finished with a moulded cornice, a blocking course, stone coping, end stacks, and two ridge stacks.
