Description
Lowlands Farmhouse is a house dating from around 1700, with later alterations. It is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and four chimneys. The house has two storeys and four windows, and currently features a plain doorway near the centre. Quoins separate the outer bays from the inner. A blocked, chamfered basket-headed doorway is located just inside the outer bays, suggesting the original design was a two-unit end-lobby-entry plan that was subsequently enlarged to each side. The ground floor windows are double-chamfered, with 3, 4, 3, and 3 lights respectively. The outer bays' ground floor windows may have been reused from the first floor, where all four windows are now sash windows with all original glazing bars. The house was raised in the late 18th or early 19th century, when the original upper windows were likely reused in the end bays.
