Description
The King's Head Hotel is a late 17th century to early 18th century building located on the north side of Market Place. It is constructed of red brick with rusticated stone quoins. The hotel features a moulded stone string course above the ground and first floor window lintels, as well as a matule and moulded eaves cornice. The hipped roof is covered with stone slate.
There are eight windows in moulded stone frames, each with keystones and moulded stone cills, and they are hung sashes with glazing bars. The original doorcase to the right has a moulded stone shouldered architrave, while the central and left doorcases are modern and include enriched friezes and pediments. The stone plinth has moulded capping, and the elevation facing King Street is rendered.
The King's Head Hotel, along with Nos 7 to 18, forms a group of buildings of architectural significance.
