Stableyard Buildings And Attached Wall, Gates And Gateposts Approximately 30 Metres North-East Of Scampston Hall

The stableyard buildings and attached wall, gates, and gate posts are located approximately 30 metres northeast of Scampston Hall. This structure includes a carriage house with a loft, stables, a workshop, yard walls, gates, and gate posts. It was built in 1780, as indicated by a datestone, with an early 19th-century extension and later 19th-century alterations. The buildings are constructed of mottled brick in English garden wall bond and feature a red and blue pantile roof. The yard wall is also made of mottled brick with sandstone coping, and there are cast-iron gates and gate posts, along with a wrought-iron overthrow.

The carriage house is a 1- to 2-storey, 3-window range on the left, with a 1-storey, 9-bay range on the right. The carriage house has three pairs of double doors and three small-pane pivoting windows with painted stone sills, all set beneath segmental arches. A date panel is recessed in a raised surround above the right carriage arch. The left extension features a 4-panel door with an overlight next to a 16-pane sash window with a painted stone sill, and a pivoting window above. All openings have segmental arches and there is a raised dentilled eaves band, with coped gables and end stacks.

The right range includes double board doors beneath a segmental divided overlight at the right of centre, with wide board doors to the left and right, and a narrow board door at the left end. Small-pane pivoting windows are situated between the doors, and all openings feature segmental arches and a dentilled eaves course. A gabled louvred dormer is located at the centre right. The yard wall stands approximately 1.6 metres high with cambered coping. The gateways consist of double carriage gates at the centre with spear-tipped rails, tapering octagonal gate posts with pointed tips, and a segment-arched overthrow topped with a spear finial. There is also a single footgate, which is a smaller version of the carriage gate but lacks the original overthrow.
