Description
The Old Barn to the northeast of Low Farmhouse is a threshing barn with an attached stable and hayloft, dating from around 1800. It is constructed of banded cobble and rubble with ashlar dressings and features a hipped stone slate roof.
The north-facing street front has an off-centre pair of threshing doors set within a segment-headed ashlar surround, flanked by two rows of three breathers. To the left, there is a small opening, and above it are two hayloft openings with board doors. The east front features a central plank door with a segment brick head, also above two rows of three breathers.
On the south front, which faces the farmyard, there is a slightly projecting barn to the left with a central threshing opening, now filled with brick, and a small plank door to the right, along with another plank door. Above this section are two rows of breathers. To the right, set back, is the stable, which has a central stable door flanked by small windows, and above it is a central loft door flanked by single two-light chamfered mullion windows.
Inside, the barn has a simple queen post roof with double purlins, re-using old timbers. The stables contain three wooden stalls, with the hayloft situated above.
