Description

This is a row of four late 18th and early 19th century houses located on the south side of Thirsk Market Place, connecting the Golden Fleece and Three Tuns hotels. The buildings are constructed of brown brick. Numbers 48 to 52 feature a second-floor string course. Number 46 has a slate roof; the remaining buildings have pantiled roofs with three rows of stone slates at the lower edge. The houses are three storeys high and contain a total of seven sash windows on each of the upper floors, all with stucco surrounds, except those in number 48, which lack glazing bars. Number 52 retains an early 19th-century ground floor with a canted bay containing sash windows and a doorcase featuring fluted pilasters, brackets, and a hood. The carriageway leading to the Golden Fleece encroaches upon the ground floor of number 46. The buildings contribute to the group value of the Three Tuns and Golden Fleece hotels.
