Description

This is a row of mid-19th century cottages numbered 51 to 64 on the South Side of Westgate. The cottages are built of brick with a Welsh slate roof and have 14 chimney stacks. Each cottage has two storeys, with a segmental-headed window on each floor. The windows lack glazing bars. Similarly, the doorways are segmental-headed, featuring 2-light segmental fanlights and plain doors; a modern door replaces the original at number 62. A stone plinth runs along the base of the buildings. These cottages are included in the listing as part of a larger group of buildings, along with numbers 1 to 22 (inclusive), 23A and 23B, numbers 24 to 29 (inclusive), storage premises to the left of numbers 28 and 29, numbers 30 to 37 (inclusive), 37A, and numbers 38 to 69 (inclusive). Several properties within the group, including numbers 11 and 12, 17 to 19 (inclusive), the storage premises to the left of numbers 28 and 29, 37, 37A, 38 and 39, 41, and numbers 65 to 69 (inclusive), are noted for their local interest. Numbers 1 to 4 (inclusive) also form a separate group with the adjacent Wesleyan Day School.
