Description

Gate Hill Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century to the early 18th century. It is constructed of coursed squared grey gritstone and features a stone slate roof. The building has an L-shaped plan and consists of two storeys with three bays and a wing at the rear right. The south front has quoins and a central four-panel door set in a stone surround, which is topped by a deep flat hood supported by cyma-moulded stone brackets. On either side of the doorway, there are three-light chamfered-mullion windows on both floors, with the ground floor windows being taller; all windows have small panes and a central fixed sash. Above the entrance is a single-light window. The roof is hipped to the right and has gable coping, a moulded kneeler, and a stack on the left gable, with a second large stack located to the right of the rear wing. The right return features random fenestration with four windows, three of which have small panes, while one (the far right window on the first floor) has a 20th-century frame. The right gable also has a moulded kneeler, coping, and a stack, along with a single-storey bay attached to the right.
