Description

Summerbridge House is a house built in the late 18th century, with additions made around 1805 for Mr. Inglestone, a local mill owner. It is constructed of dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features stone slate roofs and five stone stacks. The building has an L-plan and is two stories tall.

The southwest front, dating from around 1805, has coped gables with moulded kneelers and eaves brackets. It has three windows, with a central six-panel door that has a flat hood supported on brackets. On either side of the door are single glazing bar sashes, with three similar sashes above. The southeast street front includes a later gable on the left with a single small plain sash, and on the right, there are two windows from the late 18th century, now part of the rear wing, which has quoins. There is a doorway to the left with a 20th-century flat-roofed porch, followed by a single glazing bar sash and a pair of similar sashes, all set in flush ashlar surrounds. Attached to the 20th-century porch is a low wall with chamfered coping surrounding the front garden, which features ornate iron railings and a gate.

Inside, the original features of the 1805 front wing are preserved, including panelled doors, shutters, a dado rail, contemporary fireplaces, and plaster coving. There is a central stone stair, while the rear wing has exposed beams and a stone fireplace.
