Description
The churchyard cross, steps, and walled platform are located approximately 10 metres south of the Church of St Andrew in Kirby Grindalythe. This structure was created in 1878, with the cross likely added around 1912. It was designed by G E Street, with the cross probably crafted by Temple Moore for Sir Tatton Sykes. The base of the cross, the steps, and the surrounding wall are made of dressed sandstone, while the cross itself is made of grey stone. The steps are positioned on the north and south sides of the walled platform, which extends to the east to meet the cross base and includes a seat on the west side. The walls are between 0.5 to 1 metre high and feature roll-moulded sloped coping. The cross base is cruciform with shallow steps at the angles, creating an octagonal shape. The octagonal shaft stands on a moulded base with broach spurs and has an embattled top above a fleuron necking. The cross itself is a crucifix set beneath a gabled canopy.
