Description
John Gill Agricultural Works and Garage is a building originally established as agricultural implement makers, dating from around 1840 to 1850. It features a red brick construction with an asbestos roof and has an L-shaped plan. The left-hand section consists of three two-storey bays, while the right side has an eight-bay lower wing that extends at right angles. This lower wing includes arcaded bays with elliptical arches, and bays three, four, and five have metal framed windows. The right return of this wing showcases three pointed-arched windows.
The three left-hand bays are topped with a wide gable, where the outer bays have full-height round-arched brick recesses, and the central bay features a full-height pointed-arched brick recess. The ground floor displays three blind segmental-arched recesses and includes a first-floor band. On the first floor, the central bay is blind, while the outer bays have metal framed windows with radial glazing bars at the top. Each bay has panelled aprons. Along the left return facing the road, there is blind arcading of round-headed arches, with round-arched recesses set within each arch on the first floor.
