Description
Oakfield House is a mid-18th century house located on the west side of Briggate in Knaresborough. It is constructed of brown brick in a random bond with limestone dressings and features a Westmorland slate roof. The building has three storeys and three bays, with a chamfered limestone plinth and quoins.
Access to the house is via three steps leading to a six-panel door with a fanlight in a rectangular frame, situated on the left side. The ground floor and first floor have sash windows with glazing bars set in flush architraves, although the centre window on the ground floor is boarded up. These windows are topped with stone lintels that have projecting keystones. On the second floor, there are three smaller sash windows with glazing bars. The keystones extend through the stone bands at the first and second-floor levels, and there is a stone eaves band.
The house has a rebuilt ridge stack on the right and a projecting stack on the left. The left return features two-pane sashes that light the second floor and attic. Oakfield House shares a similar architectural style with number 25 Kirkgate. Restoration work was in progress during the period of resurvey.
