Description

This is a row of four houses located in Knaresborough, built in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The houses are constructed from coursed squared limestone and have a tile roof with a single course of stone slates along the eaves. The symmetrical facade is three stories high, featuring four windows on the first floor. The houses originally had sets of paired four-panel doors, flanked by windows. Number 4 has a four-pane overlight. The entrances to numbers 6 and 8 have been altered with the doors lowered and their original overlights blocked. Bow windows were added to numbers 4 and 6. The ground floor windows have 16-pane sashes in flush wood architraves, while those on the first floor are 12-pane sashes in similar architraves. The second-floor windows are four-pane sashes in flush wood architraves. Projecting sills are present, and the lintels have been altered. End and central ridge stacks are visible. The group value of these houses lies in their contribution to the historic character of Brewerton Street.
