Description
Higher Scarcliffe Farmhouse and the attached barn date from the late 17th century and have undergone alterations and additions. The building is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and consists of a long range that includes the barn, farmhouse, and a cottage for additional accommodation. The structure is two storeys high. The farmhouse features two bays and has two doorways, one of which on the left side appears to have been created by altering an original window. Both doorways have unmoulded jambs. There is one double-chamfered stone mullion window with three lights on the ground floor, while the first-floor window above it seems to be a later addition. The farmhouse and barn may have been raised when the cottage was added at the right-hand end. The barn itself is largely featureless but projects forward on the left side under a catslide roof. The entire range has four chimneys.
