Description
The Golden Lion Public House is a late 19th-century building located on the north-east side of Millgate. It is constructed of whitewashed brick and features a slate roof. The building stands two storeys high and has a wood modillioned eaves cornice. On the first floor, there are two sash windows with raised and panelled architraves, along with a moulded cornice that has modillions supported by elaborate moulded consoles. The public house front is particularly notable, with a moulded and modillioned cornice resting on seven gadrooned consoles adorned with large lions' masks. There are two doors, each with four moulded panels and an oblong fanlight set in panelled reveals. The windows have arched glazing bars and finials at their apex, and there are moulded panels at dado level. The building incorporates No 28, which is now part of the public house.
