Description
Numbers 1 and 2 The Cottages are two cottages dating from the early to mid-18th century. They are constructed of sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and feature a Welsh slate roof with stone slates at the eaves. The cottages are single storey with five windows. The building has chamfered rusticated ashlar quoins. Between the third and fourth windows, there is a board door for No 2, set within an ashlar architrave that has a pulvinated frieze and a pediment. The windows are 4-pane sash windows in ashlar architraves, each with tripartite keystones, while the fourth and fifth windows are positioned at a lower level. The structure includes shaped kneelers and ashlar coping, as well as brick stacks at the ends and to the right of the third window. No 2 has a lower bay to the right, which is not of special interest. The entry to No 1 is through a lean-to porch on the left, featuring a board door. It is likely that these cottages were originally the ground floor of a larger house.
