Description

Watson’s Lane Farmhouse is a house with an attached outbuilding, dated 1777 and the late 18th to early 19th century. Constructed of coursed squared gritstone with a graduated stone slate roof, the house originally comprised two bays, with a further bay added to the left. The house has quoins, as does the attached outbuilding. The central entrance features a half-glazed four-panel door within a slightly projecting surround, defined by tie-stone jambs. Flanking the entrance, and on the first floor, are four-pane sash windows in plain stone surrounds, the ground floor windows being slightly taller. A "W" plaque above the entrance is set within an arched frame, featuring foliage decoration and the inscription “I M” and the date 1777. Above the plaque is a blind round-arched recess, framed by an architrave with a keystone and corniced imposts. The added bay to the left features a square window with a four-pane casement to the ground floor, and a straight flight of stone steps leading to a platform supported by a deeply moulded stone bracket. A board door is set within tie-stone jambs. Further details include plain eaves brackets, shaped kneelers, gable copings, end banded stacks to the house, and a dummy stack to the left.
