Description

Ulshaw Bridge is a bridge dated 1674, constructed of ashlar and rubble. It features four segmental arches of two orders, with one being chamfered, and large triangular cutwaters positioned between the arches. The bridge has rusticated rubble parapets, and the cutwaters create refuges that include stone seats at the top, except for the outer two on the downstream side, which have been reduced in size. In the central refuge on the upstream side, there is an octagonal sundial base inscribed with 'R W 1674'. The bridge is also scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
