Description

The barn, dated 1673, stands to the north of Stirton House. It is constructed of roughly-shaped rubble stone, with sandstone dressings and a stone slate roof. The barn has two bays. A central waggon entrance has a chamfered stone surround and a basket arch formed of eleven voussoirs. The keystone is dated and inscribed with "A R M" and a boss, although the inscription is now heavily weathered; it contains plank doors. The arch is flanked by stone corbels with curved undersides, which originally supported a slate hood, although only the upper course of slates remains. A later 19th-century entrance has been added on the left, constructed of dressed stone with a plank door. There are traces of two ground floor and two upper floor windows, all now blocked. The gable ends have shaped kneelers and a coping. The interior is not accessible.
