Description
The outbuilding located at the rear of Number 6 Main Street is a wash-house that dates from the early to mid-19th century. It is part of the estate village built for Sir William Amcotts Ingilby. The building is constructed from coursed squared gritstone and features a grey slate roof. It is a single-storey, low square structure designed in the Gothick style. The front has a board door on the right, set below a plain lintel, and to the left is a 3-light rectangular window with intersecting tracery. The building has a projecting eaves band and a hipped roof, with a short chimney stack located at the rear right corner. The interior was not inspected during the resurvey. This outbuilding is a mirrored counterpart to the one behind Number 5 Main Street, helping to close the space between the two terraces as viewed from the Market Place.
