Description
The Old White Bear Hotel is an inn dating from 1735, although it has been somewhat altered over the years. The building is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and features two storeys with three bays. On the left side, there is a former five-light stone square mullion window, which now has only the two inner mullions remaining. To the right of the entrance, there is a similar window with two lights. The other windows are of a later date. One doorway, which has a chamfered triangular head, has been converted into a window. The other doorway features a hoodmould that is returned inwards at the ends, along with a plaque above it that reads "B F Esquire 1735." The building has two chimneys. To the right, there are ancillary buildings that include an external stone stair, which was restored from a ruin in the late 19th century. At the rear of the inn, there is a five-light recessed square mullion window and a round-headed doorway that has impost blocks and a keystone. Inside, the inn features stop-chamfered beams.
