Description
Low Whashton Springs Farmhouse is a farmhouse dated 1797, constructed from rubble and ashlar sandstone with concrete interlocking tile roofs. The building is two storeys high and features a symmetrical facade with three bays on each side. The central range projects slightly and includes an ashlar plinth, sill and lintel bands, a cavetto cornice, a parapet, and coping. The central entrance has a part-glazed door set in an ashlar surround, with the inscription "JH 1797" on the lintel. Flanking this are semicircular two-storey bays that contain tripartite sash windows with glazing bars, also in ashlar surrounds. The farmhouse has brick end stacks.
To the left of the central range, there are quoins, a 20th-century round-arched window, and one bay of blind windows, with a small ground-floor window to the right. On the right side, there are quoins as well, with a ground-floor French window and a sash window with glazing bars above, followed by one bay of blind windows and ashlar coping. A central brick stack is also present.
At the rear, there is an added range behind the central and right-hand (eastern) ranges, which formerly contained dairies and other offices but is now incorporated into the house. The right return of the front range features a dressed stone surround to a wide opening, with a blocked round-arched window above.
Inside, a rear passage runs the full length of the front range and has arched openings in the cross walls, one of which features Gothick tracery for a fanlight. The doors are of six fielded panels.
