Description
No. 47 High Street is a house that has been converted into a shop, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It features incised rendering and a Westmorland slate roof. The building stands three storeys tall and has three bays. The central entrance consists of a 20th-century glazed shop door, which is flanked by large projecting plate-glass shop windows. Above, there is a sloping fascia with a deep wooden cornice. The windows are slightly recessed sashes with glazing bars, and the second floor has double keystones. The eaves cornice is dentilled and moulded, and there are rendered end stacks on the left side.
Although the interior was not inspected, substantial remains of a timber-framed house were found during alterations in 1978. A fine staircase with turned balusters was also recorded at the rear of the house.
