Description
The gate piers and railings, located approximately 20 metres to the south-west of the house, date from around 1770 and are likely the work of Thomas Atkinson for Thomas Stapleton. They are constructed from magnesian limestone ashlar and feature cast-iron railings. The end piers are circular in shape and channelled, with the ends surmounted by fluted urns. The gate piers, set on moulded plinths, have friezes adorned with paterae and are also topped with fluted urns. The carriage gate piers stand on square plinths decorated with festoons. The railings include spiked bars. The gates themselves are from the late 20th century and are not of special interest.
