Description
The vase located in the gardens to the west of Rudding Park House is a mid-19th century or earlier structure, possibly designed by Joseph Paxton as part of the scheme for the Crystal Palace. It features a brick plinth and a marble vase, standing approximately 3 meters tall. The vase has a moulded base and a filleted stem, with a fluted cup that includes a central band adorned with two female masks. The rim is out-turned and decorated with scrolls and swags. It is believed that this vase was brought from the old Crystal Palace, which was built between 1850 and 1851, rebuilt on a new site between 1851 and 1854, and ultimately burned down in 1936, to serve as a focal point in the gardens.
