Description
Nos 71 and 72 on North Street are a pair of houses that have been converted into shops. They date from around 1800, with alterations made in the early and late 19th century. The buildings are constructed of red brick, which is partly rendered and colour-washed, topped with a 20th-century tile roof that features three brick chimneys.
The east front has two bays. On the left, there is a small early 19th-century shop front with a pilaster surround and a canopy. To the right, a half-glazed door with an overlight and a painted wedge lintel leads to a larger late 19th-century shop front, which includes flanking wooden panel pilasters and a fascia board above. This shop front has a recessed half-glazed door with an overlight on the right and a double-pane shop window on the left. Above, there are two plain sash windows with painted wedge lintels that include keystones.
The north front features a late 19th-century triple-pane shop window, with a half-glazed door to the right and a plain sash window, both adorned with raised keystones, followed by a small casement window. Above, there are two plain sash windows with painted wedge lintels and keystones.
