Description
Newsham Bridge across the River Rye is a bridge built in the early 18th century, with some later rebuilding. It is constructed of tooled sandstone and features three spans, with the center span being taller. There is a fourth, lower arch next to the side spans, which likely served as a former mill-race. The bridge has semicircular arches made of voussoirs, with roll hoodmoulds positioned between the cutwaters. A raised band runs beneath the raked parapet, which has plain, chamfered coping. The cutwaters extend upwards to create embrasures in the parapet. Part of the bridge is located in the civil parish of Habton.
