Description
No. 77 High Street is a house that has been converted into offices. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some alterations since then. The building features pale brown brick laid in header bond and a graduated stone slate roof. It stands three storeys high and has three bays. The central door consists of six fielded panels and is topped by a fanlight with Gothick glazing bars. This door is framed by a doorcase that includes fluted Tuscan pilasters, a frieze with paterae, and an open pediment. The windows have flat arches and flush exposed sash boxes, with 16-pane sashes on the ground floor and 4-pane sashes on the first and second floors, the latter being smaller. The building has paired gutter brackets, shaped kneelers, and ashlar coping, along with red brick end stacks. At the rear, there is a tall round-arched staircase window. Inside, some doors feature six fielded panels, and there is a central dog-leg staircase with moulded stick balusters and a wreathed handrail, along with 19th-century cornices.
