Description

Bow Windows Farmhouse and attached farm buildings date back to 1654, with extensions made in the 18th century and alterations in the 19th century. The farmhouse features stucco and roughcast over stone, while the farm buildings are made of exposed rubble, some of which is whitewashed, all topped with graduated slate roofs.

The farmhouse is two storeys high with a three-by-two window arrangement on the first floor and a three-quarter outshut at the rear. The farm buildings are arranged in a U-shape, with a two-storey barn and cow house consisting of eight bays across the north end of the yard. One-storey wings extend to the south, with the western wing connecting to the house.

The entrance front of the house, which faces the road, has been remodeled, featuring a doorway on the left with a chamfered, quoined surround. Above this, there is a two-light chamfered mullion window that has a reused lintel inscribed with the date '1654'. The right side of the house has raised quoins and a broad, two-storey, canted bay window with a 1:2:1 light arrangement, projecting sills, and ashlar surrounds to 20th-century casements topped by a hipped roof. There is a brick corner stack to the right of the coped gable, and the left corner has a parapet raised above the outshut roofline. The right return of the house features three tall casements on each floor, with an additional section on the right that includes two casements and a door beneath two six-pane sashes. The right side has shaped kneelers and gable copings, along with two ridge stacks.

The barn and cow house have a catslide roof projection over a central pigeon loft, with a recess to the left that includes doors to each floor and a cow house door framed in wood with an arch. To the right of the pigeon loft, the roof extends to form a canopy over a wagon passageway. The one-storey link to the house has two doors, a casement, and garage doors beneath a monoclinal roof. The opposite wing features three boarded doors and two windows set beneath the eaves. The interior of the house has not been inspected, but the barn includes principal-rafter trusses.
