Description
Tower House is a former coastguard's house, now a private dwelling, built in the mid 19th century. It features cement render and scored stucco with ashlar sandstone dressings and has a graduated slate roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of three bays. It has a chamfered plinth and cement quoins on the right side.
The central feature includes a raised ashlar doorcase with pilasters, a frieze panel, and a cornice on consoles, which are mirrored in profile on each side. Above the doorcase is a sunken apron with a shell niche beneath an archivolt on consoles. The large three-light windows on the ground floor have quoined, ovolo-moulded surrounds that frame 20th-century casements, with the original stone mullions and transoms removed. The first floor has short three-light windows with matching surrounds but without cornices, and these are set in gabled half-dormers. The dormers and end gables are adorned with shaped kneelers and moulded gable copings. A large end stack is located on the left side of the building.
