Description

Ivy Cottage is a house located on Victoria Road in Dragley Beck, Ulverston. It likely dates from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the early to mid-19th century. The exterior is pebbledashed and features slate roofs.

The oldest section of the house, situated to the right with its gable facing the road, is a single storey with an attic and has a two-room layout. The windows have plain reveals and projecting stone sills. The attic is illuminated by two dormers; the left one has a flat roof, while the right one is gabled. Most windows have timber casements, except for the right-hand window on the ground floor, which features cast-iron lattice glazing. The right gable wall has two similar windows, one above the other, serving the ground and attic floors. The doorway, located between the bays, has plain reveals, a timber door frame with a false four-centred head, and a studded plank door typical of the 17th century, complete with strap hinges.

To the left of this section is a taller two-storey addition with one bay. This part includes an iron lattice casement on the first floor and a timber casement on the ground floor, along with a doorway to the right. There are chimneys with projecting stacks on both sides of this taller section, with the left-hand chimney featuring two diagonal caps.

The interior has not been inspected but is said to contain crucks.
