Description

The monument known as the Obelisk is located in the churchyard to the west of the Church of St Mary. It was erected in 1821 through voluntary contributions to commemorate five women who died in the fire that destroyed the Rose and Crown Inn in 1820. The inscription is raised and there is a panel on the pedestal, with biblical texts on the other side.
