Description
Nelson House, originally an inn and now a private house, dates from 1774, as indicated by the initials and date on the lintel (though the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments suggests 1711). The building is constructed from coursed, squared rubble with quoins and features a graduated stone-flagged roof with stone end chimneys. The front is symmetrical, consisting of two storeys and three bays, with a central glazed door flanked by paired sash windows on each floor, all set within stone surrounds. Adjoining the west end is a taller stable, built later but of similar construction to the house. The stables have two ground floor doors with access to a hay loft above and two windows.
