Description
Lamonby Hall is a house dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century, with 20th-century alterations. It features cement render over large blocks of sandstone rubble and is topped with a graduated greenslate roof, which includes banded sandstone chimney stacks. The building is 2½ storeys tall and has three bays. There is an off-centre 20th-century door and casement windows set in 20th-century cement surrounds. The right return wall has a blocked doorway with a chamfered surround and a small blocked attic window, now fitted with 20th-century windows in cement surrounds. The left return wall also has a small blocked attic window. The rear of the house has an outshut with 20th-century windows. Inside, there is a large segmental-arched stone fireplace from the 16th or 17th century, supported by a stepped buttress on the external wall. A fragment of floral carving in the fireplace arch suggests that medieval materials from a nearby chapel site have been reused. The right 20th-century extension is not of interest.
