Description

South Celleron Farmhouse and attached barn date from the early 18th century, with later additions. The farmhouse is constructed of stone rubble, roughly plastered with ashlar dressings, and has a slate roof. It is arranged with a central entrance plan. The north-east elevation is two storeys and three bays, featuring a lean-to outshut and an attached barn extending to the north-east. Coped gables with kneelers are present on the front elevation. Windows have small-paned glazing, with three-light windows having flat-faced mullions in chamfered reveals. The central first-floor window is square with an architrave surround. The front entrance has an architrave, pulvinated frieze, and cornice, and leads to a four-panel door with a top light. Gable-end stacks have cornices. The outshut has a plain entrance and a stack at one end. The north-west elevation of the barn has two entrances with chamfered reveals, one new window, and an elliptical-headed barn entrance with a keystone. Square ventilation holes are located below the eaves. The south-west elevation features an outshut with a catslide roof and a gabled wing projecting beyond the return. The wing retains remnants of a dripstone and a corbelled gable-end stack. Casement windows, one with small panes, and a horizontally sliding sash window with glazing bars are also present. An entrance is positioned adjacent to the return. The return lean-to outshut has a plain entrance. A two-light flat-mullioned stair window is found in the outshut. The return has a window with small-paned glazing and a triangular-headed window above. The south-east elevation of the barn is blind, with an attached lean-to privy, where the seat has two holes. The interior was not inspected, but the stair probably has splat balusters.
