Description
The barns located to the north-west of Brackenhill Farmhouse date from the late 18th century, with an early 19th-century extension. They are constructed of coursed red sandstone rubble and feature a mix of roofing materials, including graduated green slate on one side, red sandstone slates and Welsh slates on the other, along with a corrugated asbestos roof on the extension. The buildings are two storeys high and enclose the farmyard on three sides.
The original barn has sliding plank doors, a blocked doorway to the left, small casement windows on the ground floor, and larger windows above. A joint in the wall indicates that the other structures are an extension. The central extension now serves as a byre and includes an archway that provides access to the farmyard, along with slit vents in the upper part of the wall. A barn at right angles features an enlarged cart entrance and another entrance to the left, as well as external stone steps leading to a plank loft door, slit vents, and unglazed openings. The barns are listed partly for their group value with Brackenhill Farmhouse.
