Description
Brackenhill Farmhouse is a late 18th-century farmhouse built from snecked calciferous sandstone ashlar, set on a squared plinth with raised V-jointed quoins. The roof is made of Welsh slate, featuring coped gables and kneelers, with both 20th-century brick and original ashlar chimney stacks. The building stands 2½ storeys high and has five bays, along with a granary wing that is at right angles to the main structure, sharing similar dimensions but with a slightly lower roof line.
The entrance features a four-panel door set in a moulded architrave, complete with a pulvinated frieze and a moulded cornice. The sash windows, which have broad glazing bars, are framed by plain raised stone surrounds. The attic windows are half blocked with stone, originally painted to create the appearance of complete windows. The granary wing has similar windows, with the first floor and attic windows also half blocked with stone.
The courtyard walls of the wing include external stone steps leading to a first-floor granary door, and there is a pulley swing bar above for loading sacks into the granary.
