Description
Stainburn Old Hall is a house dating from the early 17th century. It features thick cement roughcast walls beneath a slate roof with coped gables and roughcast chimney stacks. The building stands three storeys tall and has three bays. A gabled stone porch includes a 20th-century door set in a chamfered stone surround, topped by an oval overlight, both of which are under hoodmoulds. The windows are cross-mullioned and also have hoodmoulds, although the top-floor two-light windows are all blocked. This site is likely the location of a medieval manor house that was destroyed by the Scots in 1315 and was later rebuilt, as referenced in 15th-century documents.
