Description
Warwick Hall is a house built between 1934 and 1935 by Colonel Guy Elwes for Mrs. Liddell. It features red sandstone ashlar walls and a hipped green slate roof topped with a cupola. The building is two storeys high and has seven bays, along with a two-storey wing that has three bays. The three central bays project and are made of smooth ashlar, adorned with pilaster strips and a parapet that has open stone balustrades and moulded coping. The slightly recessed bays on either side are constructed of rusticated ashlar with smooth pilaster strips. The windows are sash with glazing bars, and there is an oak panelled door and lead downspouts. The polygonal cupola is supported by stone columns and features a large copper dome. Inside, the hall staircase is a circular cantilever design with decorative wrought iron balusters and a curved moulded wooden handrail. There is a stone stepped river terrace on the east face of the building. Warwick Hall was the ancient seat of the Warwick family and was rebuilt in the 18th century, specifically in 1794 and 1828, before being completely destroyed by fire on September 30, 1933. Colonel Elwes was the brother-in-law of Mrs. Elwes, the current owner as of 1983.
