Description
The footbridge at the east end of Wetheral Station was built in the 1880s for the North Eastern Railway. It features a cast iron frame with a wooden plank walkway and serves as a double-track passenger overbridge, following a standard design for this railway line. The bridge has an L-shape with two flights of steps on each side that connect to an arched walkway. It is supported by four cast columns on either side, with cast arch panels. The wooden steps lead up to the plank walkway, which is accompanied by a wooden handrail and a latticed balustrade. The bridge displays raised cast pattern numbers N1 and Fl on individual panels, and the bridge number 158 is marked on the wooden railings beside it. This structure is listed partly for its group value with the nearby Station Master's House and Corby Bridge.
