Description
The ruin of the Church of St Bridget is a parish church located within the churchyard of the current parish church in Bridekirk. It dates back to the 12th century, with alterations made in the late 15th or early 16th century, and became a ruin in the late 19th century. The structure is built from a mix of calciferous and red sandstone blocks. Only the remains of three chancel walls are still standing. The east window features three rounded lights beneath a hoodmould, while the south window has a flat stone-mullioned design, also under a hoodmould. The north wall likely shows the remains of a vestry doorway and a smaller blocked window or recess, which is now covered by a tomb. Inside, there are two east aumbries, and the lintel of the south window is a medieval grave slab. A fire in the mid-19th century led to the construction of the present church.
