Description
46 and 48 Scotch Street are two houses that have been converted into two shops with storage space above. They were built in the early 19th century and have undergone some later alterations. The buildings are made of calciferous sandstone ashlar and feature a sill band and eaves cornice. Although the slate roof is not visible from the street, the original ridge and end brick chimney stacks remain.
The structure has three storeys and five bays, designed in a plain classical style with a double-depth plan. The ground floor has 20th-century shop doors and windows, with a flat archway leading to Treasury Court. Above, there are sash windows set in plain stone reveals. There is faded lettering on the front of No. 48, located between the first and second floors, that reads "GRAMOPHONE & WIRELESS SHOWROOMS." The shop window of No. 46 extends into No. 44 on the ground floor. Internal panelled shutters can be found at the first-floor windows. The interior has not been inspected.
