Description

East Old Wall and its attached outbuildings is a farmhouse dated 1701, which was restored in 1886. The building features red sandstone rubble walls and a Welsh slate roof, with yellow brick chimney stacks. It is two storeys high and has four bays, flanked by a two-storey wing with one bay on the left and a barn on the right. There are single-storey outbuildings at the extreme left.

The entrance has a plain quoined surround, with a 20th-century door and fanlight. The windows are 2-pane sash types with plain stone surrounds. To the left, there is a small filled window with a chamfered surround and a small wall sundial above it. The extension includes a 20th-century casement window on the ground floor and another casement with glazing bars above.

The outbuilding features a plank door with a plain stone surround and a 2-pane sash window with plain stone surrounds. The rear of the extension displays a reused lintel stone inscribed with the date and initials KAS, along with the inscription "RESTORED 1886 J.P. & M.A. LAW." Above this is a cockerel on a shield with the Latin inscription "DUM VIVO GAMAM," representing the Law family arms. The extension at the rear of the house has sandstone rubble walls, sash windows with glazing bars, and plain stone surrounds. The barn has two arched cart entrances with plank doors, while the single-storey outbuilding also features plank doors and plain stone surrounds. The property is aligned with and almost on top of the Roman Wall.
