Description
The Cottage is a mid-17th century cottage that has undergone later alterations. It features whitewashed stone walls and a graduated slate roof, along with 19th century brick chimney stacks. The building is a single storey with three bays. The entrance, which dates from the 19th or 20th century, has a plain stone surround and a plank door, while the original entrance is slightly to the left and filled in. There are two small windows to the left with chamfered sills, one of which retains the remains of a stone mullion. To the right is a 19th or 20th century wooden casement window. Adjacent to this is a small filled fire window, with a corresponding window on the opposite wall that is now internal. The rear of the cottage features a large 20th century extension, which is not included in the listing, but to the extreme left is an original built-in external wall sink, likely used to conduct water inside from an external pump. The cottage is built on the site of a Roman Wall and is probably constructed from stone sourced from that wall. The listing does not include the 20th century garage extension to the right.
